APPROACH

Hi, I’m Liz! I will walk your dog.

My approach to working with dogs is shaped by nine years of living with a fear-aggressive, reactive pit bull. I adopted Karla when she was two and a half — after she’d been living on the streets and had puppies twice over. She was fiercely loving toward the people she trusted but very wild. She had no chill with dogs and strangers, but it took time for me to understand the extremes of her behavioral challenges. Two years after adopting her, she unexpectedly bit someone in a moment of fear and overwhelm, and I knew I needed expert help to keep her and others safe.

In addition to working with an excellent dog behaviorist, I found a dog walker who was experienced working with rescue dogs. She understood the risk that Karla posed and really paid attention to my concerns and requests — crossing the street when needed, using tools like a gentle leader correctly, and following every boundary. Karla came to love and trust her.

That is the basis of how I’ll work with you and your dog now: interacting with patience, communication, and respect for whatever you and your dog need. If your dog is reactive, shy, intense, or just a lot — that’s totally fine. I’ve been there.

ABOUT ME

I’m walking dogs because I’m going back to school full time for the fall 2025 semester. I’m getting a masters of social work through the School of Social Welfare at the University of Albany. I have an MFA in fiction from the University of Michigan — I’m slowly working on a novel. You may know me from my work previously managing The Spark Building in Hudson. Working in the community is really meaningful to me, and I care about economic justice. I offer all of my services on a sliding scale.

Karla died of untreatable cancer this past November. She was a singular dog and my best bud — I swear she’d laugh if you looked at her in a silly way. One time I told her “Piggy is behind the couch,” and she literally went behind the couch and found it. She pulled all the stuffing out of various replacement piggies ten times, and I like to think each time I bought her a new one, she was like “ARE YOU SERIOUSLY F%#%NG BACK AGAIN I THOUGHT I KILLED YOU.”

I adopted Jackie this January. She’s a total clown, very chill, great with kids and cats and other dogs, a little scared of adults but gaining confidence. If you’re interested in socializing your dog, Jackie can help us with that.
